We once thought seeing kākā on The Terrace would be an amazing achievement - now it's an everyday sight.
Imagine what we could achieve in the next 25 years.
Imagine hihi/stitchbird in the suburbs, mokomoko/lizards at home in the CBD, forests of natives through our backyards providing food and habitat for more wildlife.
In a city shaped by wild weather and wild ideas, we’ve worked together to create a space where people and nature connect.
The fence has shown us what's possible in just 25 years. Now we have the opportunity to reimagine the fence.
We have the chance to review its success and make sure it continues protecting what was nearly lost.
Join us as we look to the next generation of the fence, and the protection and future it provides.
Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne has a vision to restore this valley to the way it was before the arrival of humans. With its 8.6km fence keeping out introduced mammalian predators, birds such as the tūī, kākā and kererū, once extremely rare in the region, are all now common sights around central Wellington. Other vulnerable native species such as tīeke, little spotted kiwi, and tuatara remain thriving safely in the sanctuary.
Help us to continue educating and inspiring future generations. Your donation will make sure that Zealandia is safe for both the wildlife and for you when you visit. Your support will also assist with ground-breaking research that contributes to the field of conservation across New Zealand and internationally.
All donations $5.00 and over are tax deductible.

A regular, recurring donation is an easy way to offer continued support and allows us to plan for the year ahead.
Pay for an admission ticket for someone else who may have barriers to being able to access nature.
Making a gift in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to remember them.
Leaving a gift in your will (bequest) will leave a legacy for future generations to experience.

Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne has always been, and will always be, for conservation, not profit. We have relied on the support of locals and visitors to continue building healthy populations of our precious native species. It is these generous donations that allow us to extend conservation efforts beyond the fence, increasing biodiversity and knowledge of the natural world.
